Taylor, one of your superpowers is that you listen. Thank you for that. And, I have this skein of lovely, red (with purple overtones) left over from a certain Christmas project. Guess I know what I'm going to do with it.
This entire piece captures how craft becomes resistance and self-care at the same time. That line about songs being prayers really stuck with me, and it makes total sense why fiber work keeps showing up in protest movements. The way you balnce the weight of what's happening with the simple act of making somethng beautiful is kinda inspiring. I went through a rough patch last year and picking up crochet again was the only thing that kept me steady.
Thank you for starting my day with your insight, love, and joy. I needed that. Still do.
I knit my first Melt ICE cap with Malabrigo Rios in Ravelry Red, a skein that's been lying around, and wore it for the first time yesterday. It felt purposeful and, happily, warm.
Inquiring minds and hands need to know: what gauge did you get with your chunky hat, on which size needles, and how many stitches did you cast on?
Many cheers and hugs to you, dear friend.
Yes, last Thursday night on the Colbert show, Maria J. Stephan, an academic specializing in non-violent protest, said what alison stage-klute wrote here, "Joy is resistance."
These are good questions about the hat. I used a US9 needle and cast on 86 stitches. I also added about 3 extra rows of plain stockinette rounds before I started the decreases. I will go edit the post as well so that everyone can have the info easily at hand.

Many hugs...as we slog through this.

I know what skein you are talking about and I think it would make an awesome hat! I love seeing the variety of all the different creations.
Joy IS resistance...you got this ❤️ ali k.

Thank you for being you, dear friend.
